This is an 11-month non-tenure track faculty position – 100xtension. This individual will act as a liaison between the OSU Extension Animal Science and Agricultural Economics Beef Value Enhancement Team, county and area extension educators, and the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) for joint beef marketing and management programs. The Beef Value Enhancement Team contributes to the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources cattle and forages, cattle receiving and feeding, and farm and agribusiness management initiative teams.

The individual will be responsible for developing and fostering innovative beef management and marketing opportunities in Oklahoma and providing assistance to related committees in OCA. These will be accomplished through further development and coordination of educational and beef marketing programs like the Oklahoma Quality Beef Network (OQBN). Specific activities may include, but are not limited to, coordinating, developing, promoting, and conducting producer targeted educational programs and cattle marketing opportunities for source and age verification, preconditioning, and Beef Quality Assurance. Additional areas of focus would include data management for marketing programs and data feedback on marketed value-added cattle. The successful candidate will be expected to identify and acquire funding opportunities to assist in supporting and expanding value-added marketing programs.

This position will require travel and a flexible work schedule. The individual is expected to: (1) be an active participant at the OCA annual convention, board meetings, and district meetings, (2) cooperate/interact closely with county, area, and state extension educators, (3) be a liaison and build relationships with livestock market operators, allied industry representatives, beef producers, and beef industry stakeholders, and (4) work closely with the OSU Extension Beef Value Enhancement Team in developing and sustaining improved marketing and management programs for Oklahoma beef producers.

The individual will be located in the Department of Animal Science. A minimum of a Master’s degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, or other appropriate discipline and appropriate experience is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate considerable experience in and knowledge of beef production and marketing systems. The candidate in this position must display academic excellence, effective leadership, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
