The Production Manager is responsible for the overall management and coordination of process plant operations and the laboratory to achieve cost control, product quality, staffing, EHS&S and productivity objectives. This individual identifies and prioritizes objectives and goals, fully communicates them to the department employees and other stakeholders and monitors progress to ensure they are attained. Provides strategic department leadership, direction and guidance that is collaborative, embraces needed change, inclusive of all employees and focused on continuous learning and improvement. Ensures department personnel are tactically capable of executing to strategic goals. Builds sustainability into the department by supporting continued employee development and stretch performance opportunities. Interfaces and collaborates with the California Manufacturing Management Team (Lathrop and Helm), Marketing, Agribusiness and Corporate personnel in support of shared goals and initiatives. Represents the Company and Interfaces with regulatory agency personnel as needed.
•Manages and has overall responsibility for the Lathrop Plant manufacturing processes and laboratory. Direct reports will include the Production Area Manager, Laboratory Supervisor, and Warehouse Inventory Administrator. Develops and coaches the production team, evaluates performance, and initiates corrective action as required. Ensures that supervisors, support staff and operators have the proper skills and training to meet current production requirements and are capable of supporting business growth opportunities.
•Responsible for establishing optimal production schedules to meet changing marketing and sales forecasts. Ensures effective procedures are in place to measure key production parameters and that they are consistently utilized to improve performance. Ensures that the production practices, procedures and activities conform to Company, Federal, State and local rules and regulations.
•Manages the department to ensure that supervisors, support staff and operators take appropriate corrective action in response to day-to-day issues that occur with inventories, production, laboratory analysis results, shipping, logistics and plant equipment.
•Manages and participates in the identification, evaluation and effective control/elimination of substandard EHS&S physical conditions and behaviors. Actively and enthusiastically promotes departmental and individual EHS&S ‘cultural ownership’ and requires adherence to Company and plant programs and procedures. Ensures department adherence to regulatory permit conditions.
•Manages department “Continuous Process Improvement” efforts and procedures to capture and implement best operating practices that promote the consistent production of high quality products, reduction in product waste and equipment damage and improves on stream availability and reliability of the process plants.
•Performs other duties as directed by the CA Manufacturing Manager. Maintains a high level of confidentiality at all times.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field of study or an appropriate combination of education, experience and training.
Seven to ten (7-10) years minimum of progressive experience in the chemical manufacturing or fertilizer production industry (preferred), with five (5) years in supervision.
Minimum of five (5) years demonstrated leadership skills with past responsibilities for supervising and developing people.
Planning, organization and outstanding interpersonal & communication skills are key ingredients for the success of the position. Off-duty and weekend hours may be required to reach operational and compliance goals.
