We currently have an Environmental Manager I position open at our Grand Forks, North Dakota facility.

Under the direction the Plant Manager and the Corporate Regulatory Affairs department, this position is responsible for the Simplot Sustainable Environmental Management System, Risk Management Program, wastewater treatment operations, air permitting and reporting, EPCRA reporting, storm water pollution prevention, spill prevention controls and countermeasures, and hazardous waste. This position is responsible for contributing to a safe work place and ensuring environmental compliance.

Essential Functions:
• Plans and directs the environmental science function under senior management direction.
• Accountable for implementing the organization’s environmental compliance strategies.
• Implements the policies, procedures, and systems to maintain and enhance environmental performance of the organization.
• Takes the lead role for the plant in applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations and standards.
• Assists plant management or is largely responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental compliance measures required under Federal, State, and local regulations.
• Assists management in interpreting and applying technical regulatory requirements on production operations.
• Prepare and submit required environmental reports (Land Application Reports, Air Permit reports, Tier II, Form R, etc.).
• Analyze and implement permit requirements.
• Oversight and responsibility for the Storm Water Pollution Prevention and Spill Prevention planning at the facility.
• Prepare environmental permit (air, solid waste, wastewater, storm water, and water) applications.
• Provide professional and technical support and expertise to facility personnel, including review of capital projects for environmental impacts.
• Provide support and management for capital projects that may impact environmental operations.
• Monitors cost control measures for environmental compliance.
• Develops preliminary and final budgets.
• Keeps updated on information on new developments in regulatory changes in environmental requirements and incorporates this information into the company’s business planning.
• Manages potato waste reclamation for resale to other industries.

Skills/Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Sciences, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
• Have at least 2 years of environmental experience.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• A strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental laws and regulations, especially air regulations.
• Employee and project management skills.
• Waste water operator or other related certifications preferred.
• Must be able to work professionally and effectively with regulators, local and state government officials, special interest groups and members of the public.
• Must be able to accurately define problems, collect data, interpret analytical results, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations to upper management.
