Overview: Responsible for the daily
feed delivery to custom cattle
within the feedlot by managing the
quantity and quality of feed, and
proper ration distribution, to
ensure overall cattle health and the
maximum amount of weight gain.
Essential Functions: Runs feed yard
daily checking for slick or overfed
bunks, watches for changes in animal
behavior and feeding habits and
overall health; makes feed calls
based on findings. Ensures
prescribed rations and amounts are
being delivered to cattle. Provides
input to Feedlot Nutritionist and
veterinary staff on feed calling and
ration changes. Ensures feed quality
is consistent; monitors feed
inventories. Supervises and
schedules feed crew to accomplish
daily activities of loading trucks
and thrice daily feedings, according
to prescribed rations. Monitors
preventive maintenance schedules for
loaders and feed trucks and ensures
proper operating techniques by
drivers and operators.Through the
use of the Feed Expert system,
monitors loading of feedstuffs and
placement of feed in correct pens,
and subsequently corrects any feed
variances.Train new drivers and
operators on proper feeding
procedures. Collects feed samples
for monthly ration testing.
Skill/Experience Requirements:
Agriculture related BS degree from
four-year college or university is
preferred. Five plus years related
experience and/or training in a
large feedlot or dairy environment.
Knowledgeable in the areas of animal
feed and nutrition, animal health,
and cattle conditions generally
acquired with a broad scope of
experience
